Jamming

Those people from the mountains always have a tough time adjusting to the fast paced city life.  Even a premature departure to the fieldhouse for an early start on weights and drills doesn't seem to avoid the traffic.  It never works out -- sneaking through the back way, departing before sunrise, taking the little convertible to slip through unnoticed, no such luck.

Spring Into It

There is a certain inevitability that happens around this time every year.  Melancholy sets-in with a deep sense of finality in the passage of time.  Although our optimistic subconscious reminds us of another winter season approaching in the distant horizon, it is difficult to confront the reality of that long, agonizing wait.   So make the best of it.  Rather than sidle around moping -- ditch the ski pants, pack on the sunscreen, and get out there for one last jaunt and enjoy Mother Nature's greatest gifts before it is too late.  If winter lasted longer, we would take it for granted and not appreciate it so much.  Some people actually enjoy the in-between seasons.

Rare Air

During the World Cup qualifiers, each contestant gets to make two jumps.  Judges retain the highest score.  So it can be an interesting psychological challenge.  If you nail the first one, you can take a bigger risk on the second.  If not, then what approach do you take?  Do you play it safe?  Maybe you toss a snowball up in the air for good luck.

Coasting

When the American Physical Society meets annually, it's not all papers, debates, and slideshows.  The conference includes segments for realtime experimentation, discovery, and innovation.  Recently they endeavored to gain a better understanding of kinetic energy, momentum as the product of mass and velocity (and later its derivative -- acceleration), friction, the influence of gravity, and sudden deceleration.  Ultimately, this research benefits all of mankind.

Lineless

After serving in the 10th Mountain Division during the war, then later buying land and building his own ski area, the owner certainly deserves to skip the line and go straight up to the chairlift.

Swordplay

Handling a Lightsabre can be dangerous to the untrained.  It takes years of skill-building and deft maneuvering to relax and be effective.  Advice for adversaries:  well, don't even think about it.

In Like a Lion

The month of March is always more reliable for bringing badly needed precipitation.  On its first day, Liam ventured into the back yard to examine the effects of this gift from mother nature and to see what sort of neighbors come to visit.
